CANCELLED – Pitch In for Parks
April 25 at 10:00 am - 2:00 pmFREE
Lasdon Park, Arboretum, and Veteran’s Memorial is participating in the County wide Pitch in for Parks in 2020! We will have two projects that volunteers can participate in on Saturday, April 25th.
- Pachysandra Patrol—Volunteers will help us restore garden beds by weeding pachysandra and mulching in the Azalea Garden and Synoptic Garden.
- Weed Wrangle—Lasdon Park Veteran’s Memorial is a pathway, known as The Trail of Honor, and is dedicated to the veterans of Westchester County, from The American Revolution to Desert Storm to and War Dogs. The trail is in an 8 acre site of the forest preserve at Lasdon Park that has been impacted by recent storm events, invasive plants and forest pests. The Weed Wrangle will tackle some of the toughest invasive plants of our region including burning bush, barberry, wineberry, mile-a-minute vine, and Japanese siltgrass. This project will jump start restoring the native forest habitat of the Lasdon forest preserve that is adjacent to the NYC Department of Environmental Protection watershed land thus both improving habitat, native species diversity, and water quality.
- Relationship to Lasdon Park’s mission and goals: maintaining the Trail of Honor for the enjoyment of all; educating about threats of invasive species to our forests and gardens; help maintain gardens.
